Phasor Measurement Unit and its Applications in Smart Power Grids
Parameters such as current, voltage and frequency that can be provided by smart transducer named Phasor Measurement Unit may be useful for all the systems (monitoring, control and protection). The aim of this presentation is to discuss some techniques that have been developed in our research laboratory for enhancing the performance of the monitoring, the control and the protection systems in smart power grids.
Hamid BENTARZI was born in 1965 in Legata, Boumerdes. He received His Ingniorat and Magister degrees from Institut National d‘Electricit et Electronique (INELEC), Boumerdes, in 1989 and 1992 respectively. Both are in applied Electronics. However, he achieved his PhD degree at the Ecole Nationale Polytechnique, Algiers, in Micro-Electronic, in 2004. From 1993 to 1998 he was lecturer at INELEC, Boumerdes. Since 1998 he has been the Engineering Science faculty member at the University of Boumerdes, with activities centered upon the control and the protection systems. His current research interests include power system protection and wide area measurement systems improvement using the recent developed technologies of communication and programmable devices. He has been author and co-author in more than 100 technical papers. He is member in many international organizations such IEEE, CIGRES, WASET and WASRTI.
